Addie Elise Lawrence receives award during Honors Day ceremonies at Wofford College

Wofford College senior Addie Elise Lawrence was recognized on May 3 during Honors Day ceremonies when she received the the L. Harris Chewning Award, the departmental award for English; the departmental award for philosophy; and the W. Norman Cochran Award for outstanding achievement in the field of student publications. Lawrence is majoring in English and philosophy. L. Harris Chewning joined the faculty in 1957 as professor of English and chair of the department, retiring in 1981. The W. Norman Cochran Award is given for outstanding achievement in the field of student publications..

The academic major awards are made by the faculty to seniors recommended by the major departments on the basis of academic achievement, character and intellectual promise. Some of the awards are named in honor of persons who have made significant contributions to the intellectual life of the college.
