Alissa Marie Williams receives award during Honors Day ceremonies at Wofford College

Wofford College senior Alissa Marie Williams was recognized on May 7 during Honors Day ceremonies when she received the the W. Ray Leonard Award, the departmental award for biology and the Dan W. Olds Computer Science Award, the departmental award for computer science. Williams is majoring in biology with a minor in mathematics and an emphasis in computational science. W. Ray Leonard taught biology at Wofford from 1949 to 1993 and retired as chair of the department and William R. Kenan Professor of Biology. Dan W. Olds joined the faculty in 1963 as professor of physics and served as director of academic computing and director of computer services until his retirement in 2000.

The academic major awards are made by the faculty to seniors recommended by the major departments on the basis of academic achievement, character and intellectual promise. Some of the awards are named in honor of persons who have made significant contributions to the intellectual life of the college.
