Carol Wagih Sadek receives award during Honors Day ceremonies at Wofford College

Wofford College senior Carol Wagih Sadek was recognized on May 7 during Honors Day ceremonies when she received the the John Q. Hill Mathematics Award, the departmental award for mathematics and the Peter Allen Moore '69 Award for Strings. Sadek is majoring in mathematics with an emphasis in computational science and a concentration in applied mathematics. John Quitman Hill, a Rhodes Scholar, joined the faculty in 1953 and was John M. Reeves Professor of Mathematics and department chair until his death in 1972. The Peter Allen Moore '69 Award honors outstanding student achievement in the strings program. The award recognizes a cherished member of the Wofford and Spartanburg communities whose contributions to orchestral music helped lead to the emergence of a noteworthy instrumental ensemble.

The academic major awards are made by the faculty to seniors recommended by the major departments on the basis of academic achievement, character and intellectual promise. Some of the awards are named in honor of persons who have made significant contributions to the intellectual life of the college.
