Charles Phifer Nicholson receives award during Honors Day ceremonies at Wofford College

Wofford College senior Charles Phifer Nicholson was recognized on May 3 during Honors Day ceremonies when he received the the Charles F. Nesbitt Award, the departmental award for religion and the Senior Order of Gnomes recognition. Nicholson is majoring in religion with a minor in business. Charles F. Nesbitt joined the faculty in 1939. He served as department chair and retired in 1966 as John M. Reeves Professor of Religion. The Senior Order of Gnomes recognizes students it considers to be the most prominent and influential members of the senior class..

The academic major awards are made by the faculty to seniors recommended by the major departments on the basis of academic achievement, character and intellectual promise. Some of the awards are named in honor of persons who have made significant contributions to the intellectual life of the college.
