Chelsea Marie Ashworth inducted into Phi Beta Kappa at Wofford College

Chelsea Marie Ashworth was accorded Wofford College's highest academic honor Tuesday, April 30, when she was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. Parent(s)/Guardian: Kevin and Edithe Ashworth, Cumming, Ga., 30041.

Ashworth is majoring in biology. Ashworth is recipient of numerous scholarships, including the Lancaster Family Scholarship, the John L. Salmon Scholarship, Wofford Scholars, the Ronald McDonald House Scholarship, and a Wofford Athletic Scholarship. An exemplary scholar athlete, she is a member of Wofford's Division I soccer team, for which she has served as team captain. Ashworth was named to the Southern Conference All-Academic Team and Academic Honor Roll, and she was named Pan-Hellenic Athlete of the Year in 2012. She also is treasurer of the pre-medical honor society Alpha Epsilon Delta, and she is a member of the pre-dental society, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. A candidate for a B.S. degree in May 2013, Ashworth plans to attend dental school at the University of Alabama-Birmingham.

Thirty-five Wofford College students and recent graduates were initiated as members-in-course during the ceremony that marked the 72nd anniversary of Phi Beta Kappa at Wofford.

Wofford College, established in 1854, is an independent liberal arts college of 1,600 students in Spartanburg, S.C. Wofford ranks 4th nationally in the percentage of undergraduates receiving credit for study abroad. Home to one of the nation's 280 Phi Beta Kappa chapters, Wofford's historic 170-acre campus is recognized as a national arboretum. Wofford is affiliated with the United Methodist Church.
