Constance Smith receives award during Honors Day ceremonies at Wofford College

Wofford College senior Constance Eleanor Smith was recognized on May 3 during Honors Day ceremonies when she received the William James McLeod Award and the Charles F. Nesbitt Award, the departmental award for religion.

Smith is majoring in religion and business economics. A Dean's List student, she studied abroad in Barcelona, Spain and also in Israel and Costa Rica. She also was selected as an intern for the Aspen Institute during the summer of 2011. Smith has been a Wofford Ambassador and is a member of Zeta Tau Alpha and Twin Towers service organization. Smith will work at the Aspen Institute this summer.

The William James McLeod Award recipient has demonstrated potential for future dedicated and selfless service to the church, the state, the nation, and Wofford College. His or her academic record, moral character, and community and college service are considered in making the selection. The late Charles F. Nesbitt joined the faculty in 1939. He served as department chair and retired in 1966 as John M. Reeves Professor of Religion.

The academic major awards are made by the faculty to seniors recommended by the major departments on the basis of academic achievement, character and intellectual promise. Some of the awards are named in honor of persons who have made significant contributions to the intellectual life of the college.
