David Thomas Marvin inducted into Phi Beta Kappa at Wofford College

David Thomas Marvin, a member of the class of 2017, was accorded Wofford College's highest academic honor Tuesday, May 9, when he was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa.

Marvin is majoring in biology and chemistry. A member of the Dean's List every semester, he played football and was a member of the SoCon Academic All-Conference team for three years. He was awarded the Wofford Football Academic Award for highest cumulative GPA for the past three years. Marvin has served on the Student Athlete Advisory Committee and as a Miracle League volunteer. In the summer of 2016, he conducted biomedical research as a Papadopoulos Scholar. A candidate for a bachelor of science degree, Marvin intends to become a physician and will be pursue a master's of public health degree at the University of Georgia..

Thirty-seven Wofford College students and recent graduates were initiated as members-in-course during the ceremony that marked the 76th anniversary of Phi Beta Kappa at Wofford.

Students are normally considered for election to Phi Beta Kappa at Wofford after they have earned 100 credit hours with a cumulative GPA of 3.600. Election is not automatic. Resident members of the chapter consider scholarship, character, intellectual curiosity, creative thinking, diversity of academic interests and pursuits, and other factors in the election process The chapter may elect only 10 percent of a graduating class in any year.
