Donovan Jordan Hicks inducted into Phi Beta Kappa at Wofford College

Donovan Jordan Hicks, a member of the class of 2016, was accorded Wofford College's highest academic honor Tuesday, May 3, when he was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa.

Hicks is majoring in government and finance with a minor in accounting. A national Bonner Scholar and Rhodes Scholar nominee, he was named a Harry S. Truman Scholar and was one of 10 people admitted as a Public Policy and International Affairs Law Fellow at the University of California Berkeley during summer 2015. A student leader in Campus Union, Pre-Law Society, Judicial Commission and Orientation Staff, Hicks founded and directed Student to Student (S2S), a local service initiative that works to make college an option for high school students. A candidate for both a bachelor of arts and a bachelor of science degree in May 2016, Hicks will work this summer as part of the Truman Scholarship's Summer Institute in Washington, D.C. He then will join Deloitte's federal consulting practice as a federal business analyst. Hicks ultimately intends to become a civil rights attorney and education advocate..

Thirty-six Wofford College students and recent graduates were initiated as members-in-course during the ceremony that marked the 75th anniversary of Phi Beta Kappa at Wofford.

Students are normally considered for election to Phi Beta Kappa at Wofford after they have earned 100 credit hours with a cumulative GPA of 3.600. Election is not automatic. Resident members of the chapter consider scholarship, character, intellectual curiosity, creative thinking, diversity of academic interests and pursuits, and other factors in the election process The chapter may elect only 10 percent of a graduating class in any year.
