Emily Anne Gaid Awarded Wofford College Scholarship

2012 May 31

Emily Anne Gaid, a senior at Alan C. Pope High School, has been awarded an Old Main Scholarship at Wofford College. Gaid is a member of the class of 2016 and the child of Perry and Loretta Gaid of Roswell, Ga. (30075).

Old Main stands at the center of our campus. It is a lasting symbol of the values Wofford seeks to instill in its students: service to others, academic excellence and leadership. Recipients of this scholarship are recognized for these qualities.

Ninety percent of Wofford's enrolled students receive approximately $32 million in scholarships, grants and loans each year. Each of the endowed scholarship funds requires that recipients demonstrate outstanding character, academic achievement, and potential for contribution to society; some have additional requirements for eligibility.

Wofford College, established in 1854, is an independent liberal arts college of 1,550 students in Spartanburg, S.C. Wofford ranks 2nd nationally in the percentage of undergraduates receiving credit for study abroad. Home to one of the nation's 280 Phi Beta Kappa chapters, Wofford's historic 170-acre campus is recognized as a national arboretum. Affiliated with the United Methodist Church, the college is committed to quintessential undergraduate education within the context of values-based inquiry.
