Emily Anne Gaid inducted into Phi Beta Kappa at Wofford College

Emily Anne Gaid, a member of the class of 2016, was accorded Wofford College's highest academic honor Tuesday, May 3, when she was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa.

Gaid is majoring in biology and French. She is the recipient of several scholarships, and she spent a semester studying abroad at the IES French Program in Nantes, after which she volunteered to serve as one of the study abroad consortium's student ambassadors. Gaid's activities at Wofford include serving on the Student Athlete Advisory Committee and playing on the women's soccer team. She consistently has been named to the Southern Conference Fall All-Academic Team and Honor Roll. Her excellent work in both majors earned her election to both Alpha Epsilon Delta National Health Preprofessional Honor Society and Pi Delta Phi National French Honor Society. A candidate for both a bachelor of arts and a bachelor of science degree in May 2016, Gaid plans to work in a health care field after graduation before enrolling in medical school in fall 2017..

Thirty-six Wofford College students and recent graduates were initiated as members-in-course during the ceremony that marked the 75th anniversary of Phi Beta Kappa at Wofford.

Students are normally considered for election to Phi Beta Kappa at Wofford after they have earned 100 credit hours with a cumulative GPA of 3.600. Election is not automatic. Resident members of the chapter consider scholarship, character, intellectual curiosity, creative thinking, diversity of academic interests and pursuits, and other factors in the election process The chapter may elect only 10 percent of a graduating class in any year.
