Erin Elizabeth Simmonds receives award during Honors Day ceremonies at Wofford College

Wofford College senior Erin Elizabeth Simmonds was recognized on May 7 during Honors Day ceremonies when she received the the David Duncan Wallace Award, the departmental award for history and the Charles F. Nesbitt Award, the departmental award for religion. Simmonds is majoring in French, history and religion. David Duncan Wallace, professor of history and department chair from 1899 to 1947, was a prolific author and the foremost South Carolina historian of his day. Charles F. Nesbitt joined the faculty in 1939. He served as department chair and retired in 1966 as John M. Reeves Professor of Religion.

The academic major awards are made by the faculty to seniors recommended by the major departments on the basis of academic achievement, character and intellectual promise. Some of the awards are named in honor of persons who have made significant contributions to the intellectual life of the college.
