George Thomas Ligon receives award during Honors Day ceremonies at Wofford College

Wofford College senior George Thomas Ligon was recognized on May 6 during Honors Day ceremonies when he received the the Global Citizen Award and the departmental award for government. Ligon majored in Chinese and government, concentrations in political thought and world politics and received a bachelor of arts degree on May 18, 2014..

Ligon received the departmental award in government and Wofford's Global Citizen Award in May 2014. He co-founded the Terrier Dynasty, Wofford's Chinese interest club. An adventure seeker, he has lived in China for a two years and is an experienced backpacker and sea kayaker. Ligon will enter the University of Edinburgh in the fall of 2014 to pursue a master's degree in international relations.

The academic major awards are made by the faculty to seniors recommended by the major departments on the basis of academic achievement, character and intellectual promise. Some of the awards are named in honor of persons who have made significant contributions to the intellectual life of the college.
