Hannah Jarrett receives award during Honors Day ceremonies at Wofford College

Wofford College senior Hannah Jarrett was recognized on May 3 during Honors Day ceremonies when she received the L. Harris Chewning Award, the departmental award for English.

Jarrett, a member of Phi Beta Kappa, is majoring in English and history with a concentration in creative writing. She has served as president of Sigma Tau Delta, the English Honor Society, design editor of the "Old Gold and Black," editor of the "Journal," and as a tutor in the Writing Center. She also is a dean's list student and was a member of the Presidential Seminar. Jarrett plans to work for a year before attending graduate school in rhetoric and composition.

The late L. Harris Chewning joined the Wofford faculty in 1957 as professor of English and chair of the department, retiring in 1981.

The academic major awards are made by the faculty to seniors recommended by the major departments on the basis of academic achievement, character and intellectual promise. Some of the awards are named in honor of persons who have made significant contributions to the intellectual life of the college.
