Jamey Kevin Bower inducted into Phi Beta Kappa at Wofford College

Jamey Kevin Bower, a member of the class of 2017, was accorded Wofford College's highest academic honor Tuesday, May 9, when he was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa.

Bower is majoring in chemistry and Spanish. He has served as president of the American Chemical Society, Orientation Staff leader, chemistry teaching assistant and a peer tutor in both chemistry and Spanish. He played varsity tennis for Wofford in 2013-14 and studied abroad for a semester in Alicante, Spain. His numerous academic honors include the Outstanding Senior Award given by the Western Carolina section of the American Chemical Society. He will spend this summer conducting chemistry research at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in Richland, Wash. A candidate for a bachelor of science and a bachelor of arts degree, Bower has received a fellowship to pursue graduate work in chemistry at Ohio State University. After completing his Ph.D., he plans to pursue a career as a professor of chemistry..

Thirty-seven Wofford College students and recent graduates were initiated as members-in-course during the ceremony that marked the 76th anniversary of Phi Beta Kappa at Wofford.

Students are normally considered for election to Phi Beta Kappa at Wofford after they have earned 100 credit hours with a cumulative GPA of 3.600. Election is not automatic. Resident members of the chapter consider scholarship, character, intellectual curiosity, creative thinking, diversity of academic interests and pursuits, and other factors in the election process The chapter may elect only 10 percent of a graduating class in any year.
