Jennifer Espenschied conducts independent project during Interim 2016

2016 Feb 15

Wofford's Interim is a time for exploration and experiential learning away from the rigors of traditional academic courses for students and faculty alike. Jennifer Espenschied was one of several students who chose to participate in an internship or research project during Interim 2016. Espenschied's independent Interim project was "Socialized Medicine in Sweden." Espenschied spent her Interim in Smedjebacken, Sweden, studying the nationalized health care system and the culture of the area. Her time was spent in the local hospital where she was able to observe and interview staff and patients on their personal views of Sweden's health care system with the aim of creating a comparison between socialized medicine and the health care system in the United States. Espenschied also explored different areas of Sweden, including Stockholm and the mountains of Salen.
