Jessica Nena Meggs inducted into Phi Beta Kappa at Wofford College

Jessica Nena Meggs, a member of the class of 2017, was accorded Wofford College's highest academic honor Tuesday, May 9, when she was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa.

Meggs is a government and religion major. She is a member and leader in Zeta Tau Alpha Fraternity and the Reformed University Fellowship. She also has served as an Orientation Staff student leader and as a member and secretary of the Honor Council. Meggs studied abroad in Japan and South Africa. She gained internship experience working in youth ministry and missions, with U.S. Rep. Trey Gowdy and with a local Upstate non-profit organization. A candidate for a bachelor of arts degree, Meggs is director of Youth and Young Adult Ministries at John Knox Presbyterian Church in Greenville, S.C..

Thirty-seven Wofford College students and recent graduates were initiated as members-in-course during the ceremony that marked the 76th anniversary of Phi Beta Kappa at Wofford.

Students are normally considered for election to Phi Beta Kappa at Wofford after they have earned 100 credit hours with a cumulative GPA of 3.600. Election is not automatic. Resident members of the chapter consider scholarship, character, intellectual curiosity, creative thinking, diversity of academic interests and pursuits, and other factors in the election process The chapter may elect only 10 percent of a graduating class in any year.
