Jordan Andrew Thomas inducted into Phi Beta Kappa at Wofford College

Jordan Andrew Thomas, a member of the class of 2017, was accorded Wofford College's highest academic honor Tuesday, May 9, when he was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa.

Thomas is majoring in chemistry and has been named an Army ROTC Distinguished Military Graduate. He attended the United States Naval Academy for two years prior to transferring to Wofford. He is a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity and has worked in the HealthPals Patient Advocacy program. He also is the executive officer in Wofford's Southern Guards Army ROTC battalion. A candidate for a bachelor of science degree, Thomas plans to attend the United States Army Rotary Wing Flight Training for the AH-64D Apache and fly for the South Carolina Army National Guard. Additionally, he will work as a research chemist in the metal finishing industry..

Thirty-seven Wofford College students and recent graduates were initiated as members-in-course during the ceremony that marked the 76th anniversary of Phi Beta Kappa at Wofford.

Students are normally considered for election to Phi Beta Kappa at Wofford after they have earned 100 credit hours with a cumulative GPA of 3.600. Election is not automatic. Resident members of the chapter consider scholarship, character, intellectual curiosity, creative thinking, diversity of academic interests and pursuits, and other factors in the election process The chapter may elect only 10 percent of a graduating class in any year.
