Katherine Marie Haselden inducted into Phi Beta Kappa at Wofford College

Katherine Marie Haselden was accorded Wofford College's highest academic honor Tuesday, April 30, when she was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. Parent(s)/Guardian: Willis and Jean Haselden, Murrells Inlet, S.C., 29576.

Haselden is majoring in philosophy and religion. Haselden is the recipient of an Old Main Scholarship and a vocal scholarship to sing in Goldtones, Wofford's exclusive singing group. She spent a semester studying abroad in Indonesia and is completing two honors theses, one in philosophy and one in religion. Her philosophy thesis, informed by her study abroad, is a phenomenological study of street children in Bali. A candidate for a B.A. degree in May 2013, Haselden plans to attend Duke Divinity School on a Dean's Scholarship, and then pursue a career in counseling or social work.

Thirty-five Wofford College students and recent graduates were initiated as members-in-course during the ceremony that marked the 72nd anniversary of Phi Beta Kappa at Wofford.

Wofford College, established in 1854, is an independent liberal arts college of 1,600 students in Spartanburg, S.C. Wofford ranks 4th nationally in the percentage of undergraduates receiving credit for study abroad. Home to one of the nation's 280 Phi Beta Kappa chapters, Wofford's historic 170-acre campus is recognized as a national arboretum. Wofford is affiliated with the United Methodist Church.
