Mary Kathryn Macklen inducted into Phi Beta Kappa at Wofford College

Mary Kathryn Macklen, a member of the class of 2015, was accorded Wofford College's highest academic honor Thursday, May 7, when she was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa.

Macklen is majoring in English, with certification to teach English in secondary schools, and completing a concentration in African-American Studies. A member and team captain of the Wofford women's soccer team, she has served on the Student Athlete Advisory Committee and worked as a peer tutor in the Writing Center. She was the recipient of an Anna Todd Wofford Scholarship and a Wofford Athletic Scholarship and was named to the Southern Conference All Academic Team each of her four years at Wofford. She also was awarded the Columbia University Teachers College Scholarship. A candidate for a bachelor of arts degree, Macklen plans to pursue a master of education degree in social analysis at Teachers College, Columbia University..

Thirty-five Wofford College students and recent graduates were initiated as members-in-course during the ceremony that marked the 74th anniversary of Phi Beta Kappa at Wofford.
