Monique Jessica Collins receives award during Honors Day ceremonies at Wofford College

Wofford College senior Monique Jessica Collins was recognized on April 30 during Honors Day ceremonies when she received the the L. Harris Chewning Award, the departmental award for English.

Collins is majoring in English with a concentration in creative writing. She also is completing the teacher education program for certification to teach English in grades 9-12. A member of the Wofford College Gospel Choir and Sigma Tau Delta English Honor Fraternity, she also has served as secretary of the Association of Multicultural Students. Her Novel Experience essay was selected for inclusion in the first-year Novel Experience collection, and she has been honored with the Helmus Award for her fiction and poetry. In the spring of 2011 she studied abroad in the Czech Republic. Collins plans to attend law school and pursue a career in education law and policy.

The late L. Harris Chewning joined the Wofford faculty in 1957 as professor of English and chair of the department, retiring in 1981.
