Peter Jeremiah Elbaum inducted into Phi Beta Kappa at Wofford College

Peter Jeremiah Elbaum was accorded Wofford College's highest academic honor Thursday, May 1, when he was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. Parent(s)/Guardian: Mark and Catherine Elbaum, Murfreesboro, Tenn., 37129.

Elbaum, a member of the class of 2014, is majoring in Spanish. Elbaum, an Arthur Vining Davis High Impact Fellow, helped to create ready-to-implement curriculum for local high school Spanish teacher. Since his first year at Wofford, he has mentored a boy through Big Brothers-Big Sisters. He has held leadership positions in Sigma Delta Pi, the Spanish Honor Society and the Reformed University Fellowship. Elbaum also served on the Honor Council, wrote for the Old Gold and Black student newspaper, and studied for a semester in Madrid, Spain..

Thirty-four Wofford College students and recent graduates were initiated as members-in-course during the ceremony that marked the 73nd anniversary of Phi Beta Kappa at Wofford.

Wofford College, established in 1854, is an independent liberal arts college of 1,650 students in Spartanburg, S.C. Wofford ranks 7th nationally in the percentage of undergraduates receiving credit for study abroad. Home to one of the nation's 280 Phi Beta Kappa chapters, Wofford's historic 170-acre campus is recognized as a national arboretum. Wofford is affiliated with the United Methodist Church.
