Philip Matthew Coffey receives award during Honors Day ceremonies at Wofford College

Wofford College senior Philip Matthew Coffey was recognized on May 6 during Honors Day ceremonies when he received the the Heart of the Terrier Leadership Award. Coffey majored in biology with an emphasis in computational science, program in medical humanities and received a bachelor of science degree on May 18, 2014..

Coffey entered Wofford College as a Palmetto Fellow, a Papadopoulos Scholar and a Daniel Finalist Scholar. He has served as chair of the Wofford Athletics and Recreation Committee and as a camera and replay operator for the Wofford Athletics Department. Pursuing his interest in global health, he studied in Chile during Interim 2012 and for a semester at the Danish Institute for Study Abroad in the fall of 2012. Coffey plans to attend medical school in preparation for a career in cardiothoracic or orthopedic surgery.

The academic major awards are made by the faculty to seniors recommended by the major departments on the basis of academic achievement, character and intellectual promise. Some of the awards are named in honor of persons who have made significant contributions to the intellectual life of the college.
