Rebecca Katherine Buchanan receives award during Honors Day ceremonies at Wofford College

Wofford College senior Rebecca Katherine Buchanan was recognized on May 3 during Honors Day ceremonies when she received the the George A. Carlisle Award and the "Heart of a Terrier" Leadership Award. Buchanan is majoring in French and religion. The George A. Carlisle Award is given annually to the outstanding senior member of the college's choral groups. A member of the Class of 1920, Mr. Carlisle was a noted lyric tenor soloist. The fund was established by his widow, Helen China Carlisle. The "Heart of a Terrier" Leadership Award recognizes those students who have made a positive difference on the campus and excelled in scholarship, leadership, and campus citizenship and service..

The academic major awards are made by the faculty to seniors recommended by the major departments on the basis of academic achievement, character and intellectual promise. Some of the awards are named in honor of persons who have made significant contributions to the intellectual life of the college.
