Sara Elizabeth Futch inducted into Phi Beta Kappa at Wofford College

Sara Elizabeth Futch, a member of the class of 2016, was accorded Wofford College's highest academic honor Tuesday, May 3, when she was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa.

Futch is a candidate for a bachelor of science degree in psychology and a bachelor of arts degree in German. She has served as a tutor in both departments. She also served as president of Delta Delta Delta sorority and received the Panhellenic Greek Scholar Award. Futch carried out impressive research with primates during two summers at Georgia State University's Language Research Center, and she completed additional research at Wofford. Her research has led to co-authorships in peer-reviewed publications. She studied abroad for a semester in Germany and during Interim at a wildlife refuge in Panama. Upon graduation in May 2016, Futch will begin an internship at Disney's Animal Kingdom..

Thirty-six Wofford College students and recent graduates were initiated as members-in-course during the ceremony that marked the 75th anniversary of Phi Beta Kappa at Wofford.

Students are normally considered for election to Phi Beta Kappa at Wofford after they have earned 100 credit hours with a cumulative GPA of 3.600. Election is not automatic. Resident members of the chapter consider scholarship, character, intellectual curiosity, creative thinking, diversity of academic interests and pursuits, and other factors in the election process The chapter may elect only 10 percent of a graduating class in any year.
