Sara Futch conducts independent project during Interim 2016

2016 Feb 15

Wofford's Interim is a time for exploration and experiential learning away from the rigors of traditional academic courses for students and faculty alike. Sara Futch was one of several students who chose to participate in an internship or research project during Interim 2016. Futch's independent Interim project was "Conservation in Panama." Futch interned at Alouatta Sanctuary on the Batipa Peninsula in the Chiriqui Province of Panama. This wildlife sanctuary focuses on rehabilitating mantled howler monkeys confiscated from the pet trade. Futch assisted with the day-to- day running of the sanctuary, including feeding, caring for and socializing the monkey residents. She also helped run a conservation clinic for a visiting high school group helping teach students about the importance of conservation and how to collect behavioral and population data in the field.
