Wofford College

The Sophomore Experience is a fast-paced, conference-style event to provide students with the information they need to develop a plan for their remaining two years at Wofford College. The emphasis is on understanding their strengths and choosing an appropriate major for their interests and passions, and on learning how to secure internships and other real-world experience that will help them prepare for their professional lives. 93 students participated in this year's Sophomore Experience.

Seventeen Wofford students are participating in The Institute, a program created by the college in 2009 to help students learn professional skills such as networking, public speaking and consulting before graduation to help them better compete for jobs. The Institute runs from July 7 through August 1. The students will manage consulting projects for four businesses: MUSC, Dave Edwards Toyota, Fight Card and Treefalls. In preparation for their projects, Institute students learn the basic skills needed to function in a professional environment.

The Summer Leadership Institute (SLI), co-sponsored and funded by Milliken, an innovation company with expertise across a wide breadth of disciplines including specialty chemicals, floor covering, and performance materials headquartered in Spartanburg, and Wofford College, is hosting 34 rising high school seniors from South Carolina, Georgia and North Carolina this week (Sunday, June 12 through Friday, June 17). Thirty-six leading high school rising seniors from three states are getting an introduction to the dynamics of leadership and principles of team building at the Milliken/Wofford Summer Leadership Institute in Spartanburg. They arrive on the Wofford College campus on Sunday, June 21, and will continue in the program through Saturday, June 27. The Institute, held at Milliken & Company's Milliken University and on the campus of Wofford, provides the students with valuable corporate and academic experiences designed to encourage leadership and other skills for success in school and business.
