Wofford College, established in 1854, is a four-year, residential liberal arts college located in Spartanburg, S.C. It offers 25 major fields of study to a student bod of 1,650 undergraduates. Nationally known for the strength of its academic program, outstanding faculty, study abroad participation and successful graduates, Wofford is home to one of the nation's 283 Phi Beta Kappa chapters. The college community enjoys Greek Life as well as 18 NCAA Division I athletics teams.

Anderson earns Critical Learning Scholarship to study in Taiwan

Cole Anderson '27, a computer science and Chinese major, has been awarded a 2025 Critical Learning Scholarship to study Chinese in Tainan, Taiwan. The CSL program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State and provides immersive study abroad opportunities for students to learn languages deemed essential to American foreign relations. Anderson, who is from Charleston, South Carolina, was one of 500 students accepted out of a pool of about 5,000 applicants, according to an announcement about this year's recipients.

Three students earn Penny Koger Memorial Scholarship

Three Wofford College students have been recognized for their service to the campus and local communities. Taylor Fuller '24, a biology and sociology and anthropology double major from Roebuck, South Carolina; Ashley Manigault '24, a French and psychology double major from Charleston, South Carolina; and MauriAnna Richardson '25, a chemistry major from Columbia, South Carolina, have earned the Penny Koger Memorial Scholarship. They were honored during the Black Alumni Summit held during Homecoming. Fuller also earned the inaugural Harold Mitchell Jr. and Marlon Hunter ReGenesis Healthcare Undergraduate Scholarship for students pursuing studies in health care-related fields at a four-year college or university in South Carolina. In addition, Nadia Ferguson '25, a chemistry major from Spartanburg, received the 1854 Heritage Fund award.

Maggie Genoble '24 prepares for exhibition on technology, gender and the human body

Maggie Genoble '24 is going big with her upcoming solo exhibition in the Richardson Family Art Gallery, taking on the theme of technology and its connection to the human body and society. The 2023 Whetsell Fellow from Jonesville, South Carolina, spent her summer working on numerous mixed media pieces, from etched computer screens to silicone molds of body parts. "During my summer research, I began diving into readings about the posthuman body - the cyborg - and what that means for identity," says Genoble, who is majoring in art history and studio art.

Josh Lipscomb '24 named Wofford's Presidential International Scholar for 2023-24

Josh Lipscomb '24 has spent this year rehearsing for next year. Lipscomb, a philosophy and Spanish double major from Travelers Rest, South Carolina, has been studying in Spain since August. Next year he'll travel to Mexico and Peru as Wofford's 2023-24 Presidential International Scholar.

Seven Wofford students receive Gilman Scholarships

A record number of Wofford College students are receiving Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarships to study abroad. Seven students were awarded scholarships that will be used for Interim 2023 and the spring 2023 semester. The scholarships are given by the U.S. Department of State to support students studying and interning abroad while gaining skills that are critical to the United States' national security and economy. The scholarships are for up to $5,000.
