Wofford College, established in 1854, is a four-year, residential liberal arts college located in Spartanburg, S.C. It offers 25 major fields of study to a student bod of 1,650 undergraduates. Nationally known for the strength of its academic program, outstanding faculty, study abroad participation and successful graduates, Wofford is home to one of the nation's 283 Phi Beta Kappa chapters. The college community enjoys Greek Life as well as 18 NCAA Division I athletics teams.

Wofford students participate in the Sophomore Experience

The Sophomore Experience is a fast-paced, conference-style event to provide students with the information they need to develop a plan for their remaining two years at Wofford College. The emphasis is on understanding their strengths and choosing an appropriate major for their interests and passions, and on learning how to secure internships and other real-world experience that will help them prepare for their professional lives. 93 students participated in this year's Sophomore Experience.

Wofford's Interim is a time for exploration and experiential learning away from the rigors of traditional academic courses for students and faculty alike. Students may choose from a variety of on-campus courses, professional internships and research projects, study abroad opportunities or their own independent study project, approved and guided by a faculty advisor. Wofford students spend summer consulting for area businesses

Twenty Wofford students are participating in The Institute, a program created by the college in 2009 to help students learn professional skills such as networking, public speaking and consulting before graduation to help them better compete for jobs. The Institute runs from July 8 through August 2. Divided into groups, the students will tackle a problem for one of four local companies: the Boy Scouts of America Palmetto Council, globalbike, Michelin North America, and Milliken and Co. In preparation for their projects, Institute students learn the basic skills needed to function in a professional environment.

Each of the endowed scholarship funds requires that recipients demonstrate outstanding character, academic achievement, and potential for contribution to society; some have additional requirements for eligibility.

Four Wofford College juniors are spending the summer observing world leaders, celebrities, musicians and politicians while interning with the Aspen Institute, an international educational and policy studies organization based in Washington, D.C. The students will work at the institute's Aspen, Colo., campus during June, July and August.
