Wofford's programming team, the WoCoders, finished second in its division in the Mercer Spring Programming Competition held at Mercer University in Atlanta.

Students in Wofford's Chinese Language and Culture Program brought home six awards from the Sixth Palmetto Chinese Star Competition.

A team of Wofford students won the CFA Institute Research Challenge Southern Classic.

The Sophomore Experience is a fast-paced, conference-style event to provide students with the information they need to develop a plan for their remaining two years at Wofford College. The emphasis is on understanding their strengths and choosing an appropriate major for their interests and passions, and on learning how to secure internships and other real-world experience that will help them prepare for their professional lives. Seventy-one students participated in this year's Sophomore Experience held in Charlotte, N.C.

Several Wofford students were chosen to attend the Sullivan Foundation Service and SE Program Fall Retreat weekend held Oct. 17-19, at the Kanuga Conference Center in Hendersonville, N.C.

Three Wofford students attended the National Bonner Congress meeting held Oct. 18 at Guilford College in Greensboro, N.C.

Wofford's Interim is a time for exploration and experiential learning away from the rigors of traditional academic courses for students and faculty alike. Students may choose from a variety of on-campus courses, professional internships and research projects, study abroad opportunities or their own independent study project, approved and guided by a faculty advisor. More than 200 students chose to study abroad during Interim 2014.

Students may choose from more than 200 programs and 59 countries. Co-curricular opportunities include service learning, internships and cultural excursions.

Ninety percent of Wofford's enrolled students receive approximately $32 million in scholarships, grants and loans each year. Each of the endowed scholarship funds requires that recipients demonstrate outstanding character, academic achievement, and potential for contribution to society; some have additional requirements for eligibility.

Seventeen Wofford students are participating in The Institute, a program created by the college in 2009 to help students learn professional skills such as networking, public speaking and consulting before graduation to help them better compete for jobs. The Institute runs from July 7 through August 1. The students will manage consulting projects for four businesses: MUSC, Dave Edwards Toyota, Fight Card and Treefalls. In preparation for their projects, Institute students learn the basic skills needed to function in a professional environment.

From as close as Wofford College's admission office to as far away as India, China and England, with assignments as diverse as scientific, robotics and medical research to sports arena operations, banking, sales and marketing to volunteer services and caring for primates, more than 75 Wofford students and recent graduates are gaining valuable experiences this summer through a variety of internships.

Dr. Nayef H. Samhat delivered his first commencement address since becoming Wofford College's president at the 160th Commencement Exercises on Sunday, May 18, 2014. Degrees were conferred to about 360 graduates. Samhat became president in July 2013 and his inauguration was held April 25 of this year.

Wofford College held its annual spring Honors Convocation on Tuesday, May 6.

Wofford College initiated 34 students and recent graduates into its chapter of Phi Beta Kappa in a ceremony held on Thursday, May 1, in Leonard Auditorium.

Wofford College student-athlete Alissa Williams named Goldwater Scholar by the Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation.

Wofford College President Nayef H. Samhat has named Lindsey Grace Perret, a junior Spanish major from Charleston, S.C., as the 2014-2015 Presidential International Scholar.

Wofford College student-athlete Justin Whitaker received an honorable mention by the Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation.
