Six Wofford College students recently earned six awards in the Palmetto Chinese Star contest, a statewide (S.C.) competition that allows Chinese language students to demonstrate their language and culture proficiency.

The Sophomore Experience is a fast-paced, conference-style event to provide students with the information they need to develop a plan for their remaining two years at Wofford College. The emphasis is on understanding their strengths and choosing an appropriate major for their interests and passions, and on learning how to secure internships and other real-world experience that will help them prepare for their professional lives. 93 students participated in this year's Sophomore Experience.

Wofford's Interim is a time for exploration and experiential learning away from the rigors of traditional academic courses for students and faculty alike. Students may choose from a variety of on-campus courses, professional internships and research projects, study abroad opportunities or their own independent study project, approved and guided by a faculty advisor. More than 200 students chose to study abroad during Interim 2014.

Twenty Wofford students are participating in The Institute, a program created by the college in 2009 to help students learn professional skills such as networking, public speaking and consulting before graduation to help them better compete for jobs. The Institute runs from July 8 through August 2. Divided into groups, the students will tackle a problem for one of four local companies: the Boy Scouts of America Palmetto Council, globalbike, Michelin North America, and Milliken and Co. In preparation for their projects, Institute students learn the basic skills needed to function in a professional environment.

Four Wofford College juniors are spending the summer observing world leaders, celebrities, musicians and politicians while interning with the Aspen Institute, an international educational and policy studies organization based in Washington, D.C. The students will work at the institute's Aspen, Colo., campus during June, July and August.

Outgoing Wofford College President Benjamin B. Dunlap gave his final official address at the college at the 159th Commencement Exercises on Sunday, May 19, 2013.

Twelve Wofford students were inducted into Sigma Delta Pi, Wofford's chapter of the National Collegiate Hispanic Honor Society, on May 7, 2013.

Nineteen students and three faculty were inducted into the national mathematics honor society, Pi Mu Epsilon, during an inaugural ceremony on April 28, 2013.

Wofford College initiated 35 students and recent graduates into its chapter of Phi Beta Kappa in a ceremony held on Tuesday, April 20, in Leonard Auditorium.

Wofford College held its annual spring Honors Convocation on Tuesday, April 30. The 2013-2014 Presidential International Scholar was named by President Benjamin B. Dunlap, and departmental and other awards were presented.
